This season’s big feasts are of course Halloween and Thanksgiving, which share fall’s color scheme. Ironic as it’s getting cooler outside, but that’s nature’s palette this season and it fits the homecoming theme you’re looking for. So whether you’re changing out the decoration on your front-hall cabinet or mantel, or maybe changing your living room sofa’s accessories or bedding, there are many possibilities! Let’s have a look at some.

Living Room Sofa Accent Makeover

One simple way you can dramatically retune your house’s look for autumn is to add warm colors thanks to living room sofa accessories. Your sofa is likely the biggest piece of furniture in the front rooms of your house that you share with visitors. A shift to a “nesting” look with warm hues can be as easy as well-chosen accent pillows maybe a faux fur throw in anticipation of colder weather even if your living room is toasty with a radiator and/or fireplace.

Front-Hall and Mantelpiece Fall Accents

A simple way to get your foyer and mantel in the fall spirit is to add a set of accessory glass bottles in red or amber. Better still, have them on a windowsill so they glow in the sunlight!

Fun Fall-Theme Accent Bedding

Now that you’ve got the main part of your home squared away, with some bold colors and/or patterns in your accessory bedding it’ll feel like fall in your bedroom as well. Consider a coverlet set, pillowcases, duvet, and all, in appealing shades such as gold or maroon.

All your autumn decor wishes come true affordably at our Streator, IL store! Have fun this Halloween and Thanksgiving and see you soon.

Designer’s Tricks: Freshen Your Home Decor for Spring

Spring has sprung. To your pleasure or pain, the flowers are in bloom. And even if you need Claritin to get through your day without a stuffy nose, you’ve got to admit the longer daylight hours and splashes of color everywhere in nature lift your spirits. Why not extend this feeling of new life to your home decor? We at Curly’s Furniture have picked up a few designers’ tricks over the years to keep your home’s look fresh.

Go with Bright Colors

Now might be the time to switch out the warm and deep colors that reassure in winter for something bright and cheery to wake up your room. Accent accessories such as wall art are a quick and economical way to do so. Why not incorporate different accent pillows for your living room or bedroom?

Shop Your Own Home

What? We’re not suggesting you buy new furniture? While we love seeing you and helping you re-vision your room with purchases, one shortcut to shake things up for spring is simply to rearrange the home furniture you’ve got. For example, try something dramatic like moving the living room sofa to the opposite wall. You know that upholstered bench that’s become a place to pile your junk in the foyer? Try placing it at the foot of your bed so you have a comfy spot to put on your shoes as the sun rises for another glorious spring day.

Rotate Your Displays

Along with placement of fresh-cut flowers in a vase to liven a room for the change to spring, the top of your accent cabinet is also a perfect staging area for seasonal displays. Store your out-of-season mementos on the shelves below. Now wasn’t that easy?

And when you need home furniture to usher in spring, our Streator, IL store is always prepared, from gleaming white accent consoles to other seasonal accoutrements. And for your own sake, get out and enjoy the glorious weather!

Ways to Use Area Rugs to Enhance Your Interior

One element that you can introduce into your interior design scheme that always enhances your home’s aesthetic is a classic area rug. Professional decorators will always have an area rug in mind when designing a space, as it is an essential piece in their toolset, a home accessory that should be more than an afterthought, as with all home accent pieces. Whether bold or subdued, your area rug can “pull together” seemingly disparate elements of your home décor. Bold geometric patterns can “wake up” your room while smaller ones in neutral tones can have a calming effect. There are numerous reasons to purchase an area rug for your home, and not all of them involve leaving them on the floor. Curious? Continue reading to learn how to use an area rug to appreciate the character of your home.

An Area Rug as Your Room’s Focal Point

Perhaps the simplest use for a beautiful area rug is to place it in the center of your sitting room or living room, to serve as the room’s focal point. Connect every furnishing component together by placing the front feet of your seating and end tables just over the edge of the rug, orbreak the rules and keep everything off the edge by a few inches. In either case, a complementary area rug that matches your existing furniture helps to anchor the room by drawing the eye toward the center, allowing each individual piece to unite as a whole.

Think Outside the Box with Your Area Rug

Of course, there are more interesting and creative means to use an area rug in your interior. One such way is to hang your area rug on the wall for a unique alternative to wall art on canvas. Hanging your area rug can also separate large, open plan spaces as an intriguing substitute for wooden room dividers. Anyone who notices your area rug, whether on the floor, the wall, or hanging from the ceiling, will certainly bring it up, thus making something you otherwise would have taken for granted into a fun conversation piece!
To find the ideal area rug for your floor space, check out Curly’s Furniture at our DeKalb, IL showroom or any of our other 3 stores.
