Why Good Entertainment Centers Make Sense for Upgrades and Upcycling

When you’ve got the floor space in the home you always wished for, an awesome entertainment center will make your viewing an extra pleasure. Be it game night or binge-watching your favorite series with your large TV unit, nothing makes a home more relaxing than the theater-like experience that the right entertainment center from Curly’s Furniture literally affords you.

Reasons to Step Up to an Entertainment Center

First of all, unlike the starkness of a TV mount, an entertainment center is a substantial piece of home furniture with a commanding presence. Most living rooms have a wall that’s blank and boring. Give it instant appeal and “homeyness” with a beautiful entertainment center taking the place of the old-fashioned fireplace and mantel. And if you still want the fireplace experience minus the cleanup or hazard, check out Curly’s entertainment units with safe, beautiful LED fireplace inserts that give you heat too!

Second, entertainment centers are an ideal fit in your home if you’ve got lots of media such as a sound system or a big DVD collection as some still do, so you need storage. With their handsome built-in shelves and cabinetry, our top-of-the-line entertainment centers fit the bill perfectly. One more thing on the storage issue: a good entertainment unit is extremely versatile for everything from your library to home office storage and even toys.

Large Entertainment Centers Are Easy and Fun to Repurpose

You might be wary of buying a large entertainment center as our visual media are constantly shifting. From flat screens to movies and TV on your hand-held devices ruling the day, our habits and home furniture needs change. Remember when a giant TV was itself a piece of furniture? We sure do, and man, were they heavy! Don’t let that put you off an entertainment unit, because even if TV as we know it is gone tomorrow, replaced by holograms or who knows what, your entertainment center’s massive shelf space is infinitely reusable. For example, some design-minded homeowners have transformed theirs into everything from cool home bars to do-it-yourself mini-pantries.

Whatever your entertainment furniture requirements are, you can get it for less at our Streator, IL store.

Tips for Choosing the Right Home Entertainment Furniture for You

You’ve invested a lot in your TV, perhaps even getting high definition, the biggest revolution in home video entertainment since the advent of color screens. So of course you need furniture for your home entertainment room to perfectly complement your screen as the center of the room’s attention, attractive but also very useful. If you’ve never picked entertainment furniture before, the task can be daunting but it need not be. Read on to learn from the entertainment furniture experts here at Curly’s!

Finding the Perfect Fit: The Basics of How and What to Measure

First, find out the measurement of your TV screen. Actually, the first figure you need is the screen’s diagonal measurement, corner to corner. This number, in inches, is quoted both on your TV’s box and in the descriptions of the TV stands and entertainment centers (wall units) you will be looking at.

Now, taking your handy tape measure, check your TV’s height (from the bottom of the TV’s base up) and width (side to side of the TV frame). Write down these numbers and check them against the same measures of the screen space in the unit you are interested in.

If your TV set happens to be older so it does not have a flat screen, be sure to measure its depth and compare that, again in person with your tape measure, to the depth the unit can hold.

Use your tape measure to see how much floor space your TV room has to accommodate the furniture you like.

Extra Measurements for Best Viewing

Make sure your line of sight when seated is level with the lower half of your TV screen. Have someone measure you sitting down, from the floor up to your eyes, and compare that to the screen measurement in the furniture pieces you like.

Remember your parents’ warnings about sitting too close to the TV? They were wise; heed them! For optimum viewing, a 29-inch TV needs 3 to 4 feet of space between you and the set while a 39-inch one requires 4 to 5 feet and a 46-inch one 5 to 6 feet. If your TV is bigger than that, allow for 7 to 8 feet.
